Senior PHP Developer

Virvo is a mature technology company providing web development and ecommerce services to clients in various countries. We have a team of smart people – with room for a few more. Our staff reside in various parts of the world, however this position of Senior PHP developer requires constant communication and collaboration with our main development team which are headquartered in London, UK. As such, the ideal candidate will be capable of working an 8 hour shift anytime between 6am to 10pm GMT on weekdays in our Edgware office (we try to stay flexible but require some overlap in work times to allow for proper collaboration).

Virvo’s development team designs, builds, and maintains various ecommerce platforms and the products that sit on top of it. Our projects include working on MVC applications, shopping carts, financial statistics algorithms, and rich, interactive user interfaces.

Virvo’s engineers take part in all aspects of software development from design, programming, and debugging to deployment and optimization.

The role: Senior PHP Developer

We’re looking for a software engineer who can help us design and build various platforms and websites, and help us optimize and scale as our client base grows. This position will involve working with project managers, designers, editors, and other parts of the engineering organization, as part of a team to build and enhance websites.

Requirements:

  • Over 4 years experience working with PHP
  • Strong knowledge of database design and SQL
  • Experience with Object-Orientated design and patterns
  • Working experience of Subversion (SVN)
  • PHP5 and PHP based MVC Frameworks
  • Knowledge of Linux and basic administration of Apache/Mysql
  • Experience with JavaScript Frameworks – specifically jQuery
  • Experience designing/developing large-scale internet software systems

Desirable:

  • Experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails
  • Knowledge of Photoshop
  • Experience with opensource ecommerce applications
  • Interspire Shopping Cart experience
  • Magento Ecommerce experience
  • Experience with Symfony and Zend Framework
  • Linux system administration
  • Expert knowledge of XHTML, DHTML, CSS and JavaScript
